Baby Trend Expedition Jogger Baby Stroller

One of the newest design advancements with baby strollers has been the creation of jogger strollers.  Often just called joggers, these strollers are specifically designed for parents who want to be able to continue their routine of running or jogging while still being able to take their children with them.

The first thing you will notice with a jogger stroller is a different front end.  A traditional stroller has two front wheel and they are a swivel type of wheel, meaning both wheels will turn and swivel in the direction that you are pushing.  A jogging stroller has a single fixed front wheel which creates a tripod style design.  All three wheels are larger than those found in a traditional stroller, they are similar to bicycle tires.

The Expedition Jogging Stroller from Baby Trend is one of the best jogger strollers that we have found.  It’s price is excellent (typically around $90) and the overall construction is solid and well made.

There a some features that are standard with this stroller that we really like.  As mentioned, the wheels are larger and are a type of bicycle tire.  This helps make the stroller easier to use when you encounter rougher terrains.  The braking system is very good.  Not only is there the standard foot brake but you have the added safety of a hand brake.  The double braking options give you an extra layer of safety for those times that you need to stop the stroller and for times that you need the stroller to stay in place.

Often times, usually to save money and reduce the weight of the stroller, manufacturers will either remove the parent tray or make it smaller and of less durable materials.  That is not the case with this stroller.  The parent tray is durable, has two cup holders and includes a covered storage container.  You can safely put keys, cell phones and other necessary items in the compartment and not have to worry about them falling out.

The padded seat is the key part of the baby compartment.  The seat reclines and latches easily and the 5 point harness is quite simple to use.  All of the straps are attached securely to the frame and includes a tether for extra safety.

An Easy To Collapse Baby Stroller

Many strollers claim to be collapsible but in truth they only fold a few corners in.  You are left with a bulky, awkward unit that may or may not fit in the trunk of your car or comfortably in a closet.  The Expedition actually folds up into a small, easy to transport collapsed unit.  Folding and unfolding the stroller is easy and quick and can be done with one hand.

A few other features that stand out are reflectors by the wheels (great for nighttime walks or runs) a nice sized child’s tray that will hold cups and toys and a good sized storage compartment under the seat.  This stroller is lightweight and has a full canopy that can be deployed for those days when the sun is bright and you need to give your child some shade.

A Few Things We Don’t Like

At 27 pounds this stroller is lighter than a tradition 4 wheeled stroller but at the upper end for weight with jogger strollers.  A few pounds won’t make much of a difference on flat surfaces and if the unit is well maintained but any extra weight will require a bit more effort.

All three tires are large and sturdy but filling them with air can be a problem.  The front tire is especially difficult to add air to, some bicycle pump attachments don’t fit between the spokes.

There is no suspension for the rear wheels.  Some of the upper end joggers have a spring suspension that can help smooth out some of the bumps that are found when you go off of a road or sidewalk.

Our Conclusion

Overall this is an excellent jogging stroller.  It is very well priced and has a good assortment of features.  Construction is sturdy and parts are easy to find if you ever have to make any repairs.  The unit is rated safe for children weight 5 to 50 pounds by the JPMA (Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association).  If you are looking for a very good jogging stroller you will want to look at the Baby Trend Expedition Jogging Stroller.
